With temperatures forcasted to be unseasonably cold for South Texas, local meteorologist predicted snow for our part of the country on Friday, December 4th. With most residents of Fort Bend County skeptical given the perfect conditions needed, most awoke to find falling temperatures yet clear skies. However, with temperatures rapidly continuing to fall during the morning rush hour and the rains beginning soon after, at approximately 10:00hrs snow began to fall in Fort Bend County. During the day time hours personnel responded to the usual calls for service as well as 4 box alarms with nothing of significance. With the snow ending around 16:00hrs, and the resulting wet roads left behind, personnel anticipated a busy night with travelers contending with ice covered roads, bridges and overpasses. During the overnight period only 2 weather related accidents resulted, a roll-over MVA on S. Main St. and a roll-over MVA on the SW Freeway, which allowed personnel to stay inside most of the night to avoid the mid-20 degree temperatures.
A special thanks to on-duty Company 1 "B" and the members of Station 2 who staffed overnight should an increased volume of calls have resulted from the unusual winter weather.
